When it's absolutely worth it
- The layout works. You're happy with where everything is and don't want to move plumbing or units.
- The carcasses are sound. The boxes, hinges and runners are in good order; only the colour looks tired.
- You want a big visual change for a small spend. A respray is typically a fifth to a tenth of a new kitchen, see how much kitchen respraying costs.
- You want minimal disruption. Doors are sprayed off-site; carcasses in a day. You keep using the kitchen most of the week.
When replacement makes more sense
- The layout doesn't work and you want to change it.
- The carcasses are water-damaged, sagging or falling apart.
- The doors are foil-wrapped and the foil is lifting, which usually means new doors are the better buy.
